Ponds

Our Chapter maintains two ponds on the property that provide members with both fishing opportunities and conservation benefits.

The Small Pond, located near the historic Log Cabin, has traditionally been reserved for younger members. Stocked with sunfish and bluegill, and with trout in cooler months, it offers a safe, accessible introduction to fishing and is an ideal place for children to gain confidence while families share the experience together.

The Big Pond, complete with its picnic pavilion, is found in the northwest corner of the farm beyond the Cathedral of Pines. Spanning more than two acres, it supports a healthy population of sunfish, bluegill, and largemouth bass. As the main destination for anglers, its size and habitat diversity make it central to both recreation and conservation on our grounds.

To protect these fisheries, the Chapter follows a strict catch-and-release policy. This ensures that future generations of members can enjoy the same opportunities while maintaining a balanced aquatic ecosystem.

Water quality in both ponds is carefully managed. Solar-powered aerators keep the water oxygenated and moving, preventing stagnation and supporting aquatic life. These systems are especially important during hot summer days and overnight, when oxygen levels naturally drop. This proactive stewardship benefits not only the fish but also amphibians, insects, and birds that depend on these wetlands.

Together, the Small and Big Ponds are more than scenic features. They provide recreation, hands-on education for young anglers, and visible proof of our Chapter’s commitment to conservation. Maintained by the Ponds & Streams Committee, the ponds embody our mission to protect natural resources while offering members meaningful ways to connect with the outdoors.
