Nestwatch, The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chapter is committed to monitoring and supporting local bird populations through its NestWatch and FeederWatch programs. These efforts combine citizen science, habitat stewardship, and community involvement to better understand and protect avian life on our conservation farm.
Project FeederWatch, also coordinated by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, complements these efforts during the colder months, when resident and migrating species rely more heavily on supplemental feeding. Chapter members track bird presence, abundance, and seasonal changes at feeders placed around the property. Observations contribute to Cornell’s long-term studies on bird migration, population shifts, and the effects of climate change and urban development.
Together, these programs provide hands-on opportunities for members of all ages to engage with nature, contribute to national scientific research, and enjoy the simple pleasure of birdwatching.
