Typically, in the fall, the small pond is stocked with trout and opened for a full day of fishing. Kids and adults alike are welcome to try their luck from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event marks the start of the trout fishing season and is followed by burgers and hotdogs.
Fishing is always part of our spring and fall family campouts. These afternoons are especially geared toward kids, offering them a safe, fun introduction to fishing at the small pond. From 3 to 5:30 p.m., campout attendees can cast a line, with volunteers staying afterward for a shared dinner.
During our annual Heritage Day celebration, the small pond becomes a centerpiece of activity. From noon to 4 p.m., kids and families are encouraged to take part in fishing, alongside other heritage-themed events across the property.
We use the big pond for our annual Fishing Tournament and Picnic. Open to both adults and kids, this event includes prizes for the largest fish and the greatest number of catches in each age category. Picnic food is included, making it a festive, family-friendly day. A small entrance fee helps support the chapter’s programs.
For those interested in learning the art of fly fishing, our workshop at the small pond provides hands-on instruction and demonstrations. It’s a chance to develop skills and pick up techniques that make fishing as much about craft as it is about catch.
Beyond special events, the chapter is committed to introducing young people to fishing through our Youth Fishing Program. With guidance from experienced members, kids learn the basics of casting, handling fish safely, and respecting the outdoors. The program builds confidence and fosters a lifelong appreciation for conservation and outdoor traditions.
