The B-CC IWLA is proud to participate in Montgomery County’s Adopt-A-Road program, a countywide initiative supported by more than 5,000 volunteers who maintain over 400 road segments. The goal is straightforward but vital: remove litter from roadsides before it clogs storm drains, flows into local creeks, and ultimately degrades the Potomac and Patuxent Rivers that supply our drinking water. Every scrap of trash picked up—whether it’s a bottle, can, or food wrapper—protects water quality and preserves the natural environment for wildlife and people alike.
Our Chapter’s Adopt-A-Road team has cared for a stretch of West Willard Road, right alongside our property, for over a decade. You’ve probably noticed the blue signs posted along the roadside as you drive in. The group meets about six times each year, in line with county program requirements, and the work is straightforward: volunteers are provided with safety vests, gloves, bags, and pickup sticks, then spend a few hours cleaning up litter together. It’s practical conservation with immediate results, an easy way to get outdoors, and a visible service to both our Chapter and the Poolesville community. If you’ve helped before, you know the satisfaction it brings, if you haven’t, we’re always looking for more hands to join in.
