DESCRIPTION:An NRA FIRST Steps Shotgun Orientation Course will be held on September 20 from 8:30am to 3:00pm starting in the Chapter House. This is an abbreviated NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting Course combined with practical site-specific Shotgun Range Operations training for members to become qualified Shotgun Range Officers (ROs). As a Shotgun RO\, you will serve at least two duty days annually to receive complimentary tuition. SUMMARY:Junior Rifle Practice - cancelled due to weather.
DESCRIPTION:Five brief fundamentals of rifle shooting from any position\n(from NRA rifle training handbook) \n\nAim\nPosition cheek comfortably but securely on the stock and get a good view through the peep sights with the front sight centered in the back sight and the target centered on the front sight.  Focus of the eye should be on the front sight once the target is centered.\nBreath Control\nBreathing in and out will cause the rifle to rise and fall as the chest rises and falls.  Once the aim is good\, take a breath and let it halfway out.  Briefly pause the exhale to take the shot.\nHold Control\nYou won’t be able to hold absolutely still even if you have paused your breath.  If your cheek is solid on the stock\, the view through the sights won’t be changing\, only the part of the target that you’re seeing.  Quickly spend some time getting used to the movement of the gun in your position so you can anticipate the best moment to squeeze the trigger.\nTrigger Control\nDon’t jerk the trigger back when you’re ready to take the shot.  You’ll move the gun that way.  Gently squeeze it and allow the shot to be a little bit of a surprise when it goes off.  The triggers on your rifles are very nice and don’t take a lot of effort.\nFollow Through\nWhen the shot is complete\, don’t intentionally move off the target.  Intend to continue being still after the shot\, otherwise there’s a temptation to start moving before the shot even goes off.  Be thinking about how you’re going to do it again and get ready to aim the next shot.
