You can see the B-CC IWLA Property Boundaries on your computer, on your GPS device, or GPS-enabled tablet / smartphone by using one of the following file links.
*** The boundaries provided in these files are for educational and recreational purposes only. This file and the civilian GPS system are excellent approximations for location. Maryland laws regarding tresspassing, on the other hand, are very exacting.
Use extreme caution, especially during hunting season, when approaching anywhere near any of the chapter’s boundaries with the surrounding properties and roads. Until you have learned the exact boundaries and verified them in the light of day, leave a wide safety margin for yourself in the dark.
You can see the B-CC IWLA Property Boundaries in Google Earth by clicking on the following link within the browser of a computer / laptop / device that is enabled with Google Earth. Once you click on the link, you may be prompted which program you wish to use to open the file. Choose Google Earth. If Google Earth is not presented as an option, you may not have Google Earth installed on your device. Once you and you computer / tablet / device are located on the chapter conservation farm property, you should see your position relative to the boundaries.
Android Phones & Tablets
Purchase and install a GPS application for your Android phone,or Android-based Tablet.
*** Google Play store suggests a number of choices. Back Country Navigator works very well with android phones and tablets***
Within the browser on your device browser (Google Chrome ONLY), enter the following link, “BCCIWLA.ORG” and select “FACILITIES & GROUNDS” and then “PROPERTY BOUNDARIES” and then “READ MORE”. Under the heading “GPS EXCHANGE” select the “–BCC IWLA Boundaries (GPS Exchange Format)” by holding your finger over it. Select the option to “Save Link” and save the gpx file to a folder you can find again on your device.
Open your GPS application (“Back Country Navigator”, et al) and import the file you just downloaded by taping the folder icon in the menu bar at the top of the page and selecting “Import Tracks or Waypoints” from the GPX or KML file. The chapter boundaries will appear superimposed on a map of the chapter property. Once you and your Android device are located on the chapter conservation farm property, you should see your position relative to the boundaries.
Apple Phones (iPhones) & Tablets (iPads)
Purchase and install a GPS application for your iPhone. ***The Apple App Store has a number of choices, such as “Motion X-GPS”. Within the browser of an Apple computer enter the following link, “BCCIWLA.ORG” and select “FACILITIES & GROUNDS” and then “PROPERTY BOUNDARIES” and then “READ MORE”.
Hold down the “control” key while moving the cursor over the link “–B-CC IWLA Boundaries (GPS Exchange Format)” & click once to view the submenu. Click to select the option “Save Link As” which saves the .gpx file to your computer where you will be able to find it again later. Open your GPS application on your iphone (for example, “Motion X-GPS”) and do the following to import the file you just saved.
– Tap “menu”, then “setup” and scroll down and tap “MotionX Help & FAQ.” The result is a screen called “user guide”
– Scroll down on that page and tap FAQ
– Scroll down on that page to question “Q6. How do I import waypoints and tracks”?
– Tap the link “imports” for instructions.
– At this point you will see a set of instructions that begin with “Send email…”
– Follow them to import the boundary (the app calls the import a “track”)
To find the imported boundary (track) on your phone, use the sequence of taps “, menu/tracks/import. Open the track 5-29-2014. The chapter boundaries will appear superimposed on a map of the area that includes the chapter conservation farm property. When you and your iphone are located on the chapter conservation farm property, you will see your position relative to the boundaries.
Unlike computers, tablets, and smartphones, Garmin devices are set up to be updated through a connection (usually USB) to a computer that has software to configure the Garmin device. To load the chapter boundaries into your Garmin device, right-click on the following link within the browser of your computer that has the Garmin software and choose the option to “Save this File” or “Save Link As” and save the .kml file to a folder where you can find it again. The Garmin software on your computer will tell you how to import this file. Once you have configured the software on your computer, your device will be updated with the chapter borders once you synch you Garmin device with your computer.
